Android Wear OS Setup with Stryd

Run with Samsung or Google Watch. Workout with Galaxy Watch or Pixel Watch. Tizen.

Android Wear OS devices are now compatible with the Stryd pod and Stryd app! This means that you can now use your Wear OS device and Stryd to complete runs and Stryd Workouts.

Please note that only Wear OS 3 or higher will be Stryd compatible.

Getting Started with Wear OS & Stryd

Before you get started, please make sure that you have updated your Stryd app and that your Wear OS device does not need an update either.

Step 1: Download Stryd Wear from Google Play

Please note that only Wear OS 3 or higher will be Stryd compatible.

  1. Search “Stryd Wear” in the Play Store


  2. Then select “Install” under your available Wear OS device.


  3. Stryd wear will get installed as soon as Google Play proceeds to install it on your watch!

Step 2: Allow permissions

After you open the Stryd Wear OS app, you will be asked a few permission questions.

  1. Allow Stryd to connect to devices: Allow

  2. Allow Stryd to use the devices GPS: Allow

Step 3: Sign in to Stryd

Next, you will need to sign in to your Stryd account on the Wear OS device.

The login details will be identical to your Stryd mobile app login details.

Step 4: Pair Stryd pods

The Wear OS will use the pairing from your Android mobile device and the Stryd mobile app.

Make sure that your Android mobile device is connected to the Stryd pod(s):

  1. Open the Stryd mobile app

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select Paired Devices

If you have not yet paired your Stryd pod(s) to your mobile device, you can follow these instructions:

Step 5: Go for your first Run!

  1. Open the Stryd app on your Wear OS

  2. Select “Run”

  3. Select Free Run to start a non-workout

  4. Wait for the pods to connect

  5. Start the run!

How to Pause, Lap, or End the Wear OS Run

To pause, manually lap, or end the run, pull the run screen down from the center of the run screen. Then select the function you want to perform.

Stryd Structured Workouts on the Wear OS

Wear OS Stryd-compatible devices (version 3 or greater) will be able to execute Stryd power-based Structured Workouts.

You also must have a Stryd Power-based workout on your Stryd calendar for today to execute this workout on your Wear OS device. If you want to learn more about Stryd Workouts, please see this LINK.

  1. Make sure there is a Workout on your Stryd calendar

  2. Open the Stryd app on your Wear OS device

  3. Select “Run”

  4. Scroll down and select Today’s Workout

  5. You can scroll down to preview the workout, then select “Go to Start”

  6. Let the pods connect, then select “Start Run!”

If you need to adjust the settings, alerts, or haptics, you can do so by accessing the Stryd Wear OS Settings.

You have the ability to customize your run screens in the Wear OS Stryd app.

Customize your Free Run experience on Wear OS

Customizing your run screen can be very useful.

Currently, the Android Wear OS Run screen can be as large as a five-metric stack down to a single metric.

You can customize your run screen by:

  1. Open the Stryd app on Wear OS

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select Free Run

  4. Swipe left and right to pick the metric stack you wish to use

  5. Select the metrics you wish to edit or replace

  6. Select the Blue Check mark when you are done editing, and select Save Changes

There are many metrics to choose from, including Time (overall, lap) Distance (overall, lap) Power (Real, 3s, 10s, 30s, Lap, Overall) Pace (Real, 3s, 10s, 30s, Lap, Overall) Heart Rate (Real, 3s, 10s, 30s, Lap, Overall) Vertical Oscillation (Real, 3s, 10s, 30s, Lap, Overall) Elevation Gain (Overall, Lap) Ground Contact Time (Real, 3s, 10s, 30s, Lap, Overall) and Cadence (Real, 3s, 10s, 30s, Lap, Overall)

Structured Workouts for Wear OS

The Android Wear OS devices can perform Stryd Structured Workouts and the Guided Workout Experience.

You can use a workout from the Stryd Workout Library, or you can use a Stryd Training Plan to add workouts to your Stryd Calendar.

Once you have the Stryd Power-Based workout on your calendar, you can use your Wear OS device to execute the Guided Workout Experience. If you want to learn more about Stryd Workouts, please see this LINK.

  1. Open the Stryd app on Wear OS

  2. Select RUN

  3. Scroll down to Today's Workout

  4. Select the Workout

  5. Select Start Run

  6. Wait for the Stryd pod(s) to connect

  7. Select Start Run

The Stryd Wear OS device will guide you through the Structured Workout. If you expect to hear tones and don’t hear any, you may need to adjust the setting of your Wear OS device to allow notifications from apps.

Workout Configurations for Wear OS

Within the Wear OS Workout experience, you can customize metrics that you see during a Stryd Workout.

You can customize your run screen by:

  1. Open the Stryd app on Wear OS

  2. Select Settings

  3. Select Workout

  4. Edit the metric at the bottom of screen 1

  5. Swipe from left to right to view screen 2

  6. Edit the metric at the bottom of screen 2

  7. Save changes

Now, while you are doing a Stryd Workout, you will be able to see your custom metric. Please note that you can only add one custom metric per workout screen. The other metrics on the workout screen are the workout mode default metrics. You can review THIS article to help you troubleshoot notifications.

Stryd App Setting in Wear OS

You may want to double-check that you have all of the correct permissions turned on for the best Stryd Wear OS experience.

Follow these steps to ensure your Stryd App Settings in Wear OS are correct:

  1. Navigate to the Settings app on your Wear OS

2. Open the Settings app on your Wear OS

3. Scroll down to Apps in Wear OS Settings

4. Select Apps

5. Scroll down to the App list

6. Select App List

7. Scroll down to Stryd

8. Select Stryd

9. Select Stryd App Permissions

10. Select Location and ensure that “Use precise location” and “While using app” are both on

11. Swipe from left to right on the screen to go back to App Permissions


12. Select Nearby devices and ensure that you have selected “Allow”

13. Swipe from left to right on the screen to go back to App Permissions


14. Scroll down and select Notifications. Ensure that you “Allow” notifications

15. Swipe from left to right on the screen to go back to App Permissions


16. Scroll down and select Sensors. Ensure you have selected “While using app”

17. Swipe from left to right on the screen to go back to App Permissions


18. Scroll down and ensure that “Pause app activity if unused” is turned on

Wear OS 2 or lower Compatibility

Not all Samsung watches will be Stryd compatible. Please note that only Wear OS 3 or higher will be Stryd compatible.

You can use Stryd with Samsung watches on WearOS 2 or lower. If your watch is compatible with the Watch App "Sporty Go!", you can use it to monitor your power in real-time from Stryd. Sporty Go! requires a premium purchase of the app or the app's Bluetooth Package for use with Stryd. However, the app allows for a 60-minute free trial. Here's how to use it:

  1. Download Sporty Go!: Sporty Go!

  2. Open the settings of Sporty Go! on the watch

  3. Select the Bluetooth Package to open it

  4. Select 'TRY' or 'BUY'

  5. Open the Bluetooth devices list

  6. Move your Stryd to activate it (if Stryd does not appear in the list, make sure it is disconnected from any other device/app such as your phone and Please set the location to ON in the Watch Settings.)

  7. Once Stryd has connected, you can now start a workout

  8. Select 'Power' and begin running

  9. Your power should now appear on the watch.

Here's how to get your data into Stryd PowerCenter:

Within the Sporty Go! app you can choose to automatically export the FIT file to a Google Drive or a similar service. From there, you can import the FIT file into PowerCenter manually.

Older Tizen Samsung Watch & Stryd

Please check to make sure your watch supports the "Sporty Watch" app. If your watch is compatible with the Watch App "Sporty Watch", you can use it to monitor your power in real-time from Stryd.

  1. Downloading "Sporty Watch" to your Watch
    - Open the "Galaxy Wear" on your mobile phone
    - Select "Watch faces"
    - Scroll down the page and select "more"
    - Select the search bar at the top of the page
    - Search "Sporty watch" and select "Sporty watch" on the list
    - Purchase the "Sporty Watch" App

    NOTE: you will need to make sure the purchase has downloaded from your phone to the watch

  2. How to enable the "Sporty watch" on the Samsung Watch
    - Long press on your watch face to select a new watch face
    - select "Sporty watch"
    - "Sporty watch" is now enabled

  3. Pair and configure Stryd to the Samsung Watch
    - double tap the top right of the watch face to open up "options"
    - select "BT smart devices"

    Stryd can only support one Bluetooth connection at a time. If the device is connected to any other Bluetooth devices, you might experience difficulty creating the pairing
    - select "Stryd"
    - hit the "X" button to return to the options menu
    - scroll to and select "views"
    - select "primary data view"
    - select "power"

  4. How to start a run with Sporty watch
    -
    Look for the red and white "record button" on the bottom of the screen
    - Double tap the "record button"
    - select "running"

    NOTE: to change screens within the app, just double-tap the screen

  5. How to end a run with Sporty watch
    - Double-tap the red button at the bottom of the screen
    - You will have the option to "save" the run at this point

  6. How to get Stryd data into PowerCenter
    - you will need to perform an offline sync: Uploading Stryd data to your phone and PowerCenter

  7. How to Sync data to other platforms
    - double tap the top right of the watch (In the Sporty watch app) to view "options"
    - scroll to "data"
    - select "data"
    - you have the option to auto-sync to either Trainingpeaks, Strava, or Google Drive (without having the apps on the watch)
    - select your desired platform

    NOTE: You will need to login to the platform using your credentials that correspond to the various platforms

  8. You will then need to open your phone, which should prompt you to sign into the app that pertains to the training platform you want to upload your Sporty watch/Stryd data.

Please Note: Sporty Watch does not record Stryd's advanced metrics in the activity file. To analyze your Stryd data after the run, you will need to perform an offline sync.
