Manually entered Critical Power is a feature in the Stryd app that can be useful for people who have done independent calculations or tests and want to input their own Critical Power number into the system.
The manually entered Critical Power option should only be used if you have a coach or personal knowledge guiding the number that you input. An incorrect manually entered Critical Power can negatively affect your training.
Definition of manually entered Critical Power
Manually entered Critical Power is a type of Critical Power that is manually entered into the Stryd app in place of a system-calculated Power.
You can calculate your manually entered Critical Power from a recent 5k or 10k race. Or you can perform the 6-3 Laps Test or the 9-3 Minute Test.
If you or your coach knows what your manually entered Critical Power should be based on other information, you can simply input the number into the app.
Who should use the manually entered Critical Power
If you are unsure of whether or not you need to use the manually entered Critical Power, the Stryd team would recommend that you start with an estimated Critical Power instead.
If you are working with a coach who is familiar with running power as a training tool, they may be able to accurately assign a manually entered Critical Power to you.
How to use the manually entered Critical Power
Open the Stryd mobile app
Scroll down to the Critical Power card and click on it
Under your current Critical Power, you will be able to select the “Recalculate” button
Here you will be able to enter a race result, test outcome, or enter a number
For the 5k and 10k estimation, you will need to know how fast you could run either event. Or if you raced either in the last 30 days, you can use the finish time. Please note that if you over or underestimate this race finish time, it will negatively affect your Stryd experience.
The 6-3 Laps Test or the 9-3 Minute Test are challenging tests that can be completed in one day. However, these tests are more prone to error relative to estimated Critical Power that can be calculated after three easy runs.
Manually entered Critical Power is how you can input a Critical Power number. This method of obtaining a Critical Power is not recommended unless you or your coach have a deep understanding of Critical Power and how it will affect your training.
